The Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon Honeygold Lumen combines a flyback chronograph with a precise jumping minute counter, a perpetual calendar and a tourbillon with a stop seconds mechanism.
The stunning A. Lange & Söhne Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon Honeygold Lumen celebrates 25 years of a storied model.
Exploding onto the horological stage in 1994 with its first three collections, A. Lange & Söhne (alange-soehne.com) shocked the watch world with its innovative dial layouts, elegant designs and peerless dedication to craftsmanship and finishing. The Lange 1 in particular—with its outsize date function inspired by the clock at the Semperoper in Dresden, Germany—was a breath of fresh air as the Quartz Crisis receded into the background and complicated mechanical watchmaking once more came to the fore.
But where the Lange 1 impressed, 1999’s Datograph was a revelation: A flyback chronograph in an unusual dial configuration, it retained the Lange 1’s signature outsize date complication and was powered by an in-house, hand-wound movement with column wheel activation. Updated in 2012 in the form of the “Up/Down” with a dial-side power reserve indicator, this incredible feat of watchmaking helped usher in the modern era of in-house movement construction.
This year, in celebration of the Datograph’s 25th anniversary, Lange has combined several of its signature elements into a single model that’s sure to delight even the most veteran and jaded of watch enthusiasts: The Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon Honeygold Lumen, housed in a 41.5 mm case composed of the brand’s proprietary Honeygold material, features a flyback chronograph, an outsize date window, a perpetual calendar and a tourbillon. And it glows.
Two wildly impressive debuts from A. Lange & Söhne for 2024 are the Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon Honeygold Lumen and the blue dial Datograph Up/Down.
That’s right—for the first time, this feature set is given the Lumen treatment, which involves a tinted sapphire crystal dial beneath which specially coated, luminous elements shine brightly in low-light environments. The ensuing visual display is mesmerizing to behold in person, giving the classically inspired timepiece a futuristic bent and a firm connotation as a thoroughly modern watch. Powered by the hand-wound, 684-part manufacture caliber L952.4, the Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon Honeygold Lumen will find its way onto the wrists of just 50 lucky customers—but is poised to delight countless more who catch a glimpse of its breathtaking light-up design.
